Environmental Scientist
Biohabitats, Inc. -- a national ecological planning, design, and construction firm based in Baltimore, MD, -- is seeking an Environmental Scientist for our Southern Rocky Mountain Bioregion office in Denver, CO. This position offers the opportunity to do innovative work related to ecological restoration, conservation planning, and regenerative design.
Required Qualifications

M.S. degree in an environmental science, natural resources, or landscape architecture. (or equivalent experience, e.g. 5+ years of work experience)

Specific training related to vegetation and soils, especially wetland delineation and plant identification, selection, and establishment.

2+ years of work experience with a focus on Colorado Southern Rocky Mountain/High Plains ecosystems, restoration/mitigation projects, and environmental planning.

Ability to perform fieldwork – particularly related to revegetation work.

Strong written and oral communication skills.

Wetland Professional In Training (WPIT) Certification from the Society of Wetland
Scientists or willing and able to apply for certification within one year.

Ability to work in small office environment, work independently, and take initiative to
develop thoughtful solutions.

Willingness to travel and work in other Bioregions.

Ability to consistently deliver high-quality work.
-
Strong environmental ethic.
Additional Relevant Skills
-
Minimum competency in GIS, CADD, or graphics capabilities.

Experience in preparing planting schedules, construction plans, specifications, and cost
estimates.

Experience in wildlife habitat evaluation.
-
Certified Ecologist.
Responsibilities
The tasks associated with this position will vary depending on the nature of our projects. Typical work includes:
-
wetland delineations and functional assessments;
-
conducting natural resource inventories and rapid assessments;
-
conservation easement baseline assessment reports:
-
vegetation mapping including weed mapping and T&E surveys;
-
wildlife management and habitat improvement plans, plant maintenance and care
recommendations;
-
environmental regulatory permitting in particular wetland permitting;
-
-
preparation of planting plans for ecological restoration projects, including specifications and cost estimates;
-
assisting with public outreach and facilitation; and
-
preparation of watershed management and ecological master plans.
In addition, this position will involve some limited marketing and proposal preparation as well as travel depending on project and business development needs.
Compensation
We anticipate employee would start out on a part-time basis with the potential to increase to full time and more diverse project types depending on workload and individual’s skill set. Salary will be negotiated at time of offer and will be commensurate with experience.
